Speed Up Your Computer

An important aspect of restocking is how fast your pages load. In this section I will give you a few tips on how to speed up your browser and even your computer.

Recommended Programs
CCleaner: I highly recommend downloading this program to clean all of your browsers' history, cookies, temporary files, download history, and form history. It also cleans your registry and many more applications. It is very easy to use and can speed up your computer dramatically. Just select the areas you want to clean and it typically just a few seconds. To download CCleaner, click here, or go to the homepage to see more info about this program.

Ad-Aware: I recommend downloading this program to scan your computer for Spyware occasionally and remove harmful files. This scanner can take awhile to run, so I suggest scanning at night or when you aren't using your computer. To download Ad-Aware, click here, or go to the homepage and click 'Ad-Aware Free'.

Auslogics Disk Defrag
I recommend downloading this program to defrag your computer and optimize speed. It takes awhile to run, but it is well worth it for the boost of speed. I suggest running this at night, or when you are asleep. You do not need to defrag often. To Download Auslogics Disk Defrag, click here, or go to the homepage and click 'Download Now'.

Pipelining
Contrary to what some people might think, pipelining to restock faster and easier is not against the rules. What is pipelining? From what I understand, it is fairly simple; your browser normally sends one request to the server to download content and load the page, but with pipelining you enable your browser to send up to eight requests to the server and load pages faster. You may look at this whole paragraph and think it is going to be an ordeal, but it is actually quick and easy. Pipelining may not work in all browsers, but it does work in Firefox. Note: Do not bother with pipelining if you are on dial-up. To enable pipelining in your, start by opening up a new page and typing "About:config" in your address bar and hit enter. In the "filter" search box, type "network.http". Look for "network.http.keep-alive" and make sure it's set to true. On the same page, look for “network.http.version” and make sure it’s set to 1.1. Now type pipelining into the filter box, look for "network.http.pipelining", and make sure it's set to true. If you’re on a proxy, look for "network.http.proxy.pipelining" and make sure it's set to true. If you don’t know if you’re on a proxy or not, just set it to “true” anyway. It won’t hurt anything. Lastly, look for "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests", right click and click on "Modify", then set the value to 8. You can set it anywhere between 1 and 8. If you notice your internet is acting weird after this, try decreasing this value. If you don't want to follow these instructions, then maybe you will want to take a look at this page.

Block Ads & Adspace
By following a few simple instructions you can block ads and get rid of that awful grey header on Neopets, thus making pages load much faster. Simply go to this page and follow the appropriate instructions for your browser. However, that page will only block ads on Neopets, and may even leave a rather annoying pop-up ad. If you wish to block the "mamabar" (the nickelodeon header), simply enter "##.brand-mamabar" without the quotation marks into your Adblock as a filter. NOTE: This may or may not be against the rules. I personally block it to keep the page shorter.

Adblock Plus
To block ads on and off Neopets, I recommend getting Adblock (plus) in addition to configuring your Firefox / other browser to block ads on Neopets. Adblock no longer removes the grey header on neopets, which is why configuring your browser is still necessary. When you download Ablock, you will probably want to download an extension to block most ads. I recommend creating a filter for the phrase "2o7" in addition to downloading an extension. To download Adblock, go to this page and select the version which is right for your browser.

Fasterfox
If you are a Firefox 2 user, then I highly recommend downloading Fasterfox. This will keep track of your page loads and even speed up your Firefox. However, do not abuse this add-on. Pre-fetching is a feature in Fasterfox and is not allowed on Neopets.com. If you are a Firefox 3 or later user, then I highly recommend downloading Fasterfox lite, it does not include pre-fetching.

  1. For Firefox 3.5 there is Fasterfox Lite ;)
Also for Defragging, I'd recommend Defraggler. Free and a great program that really takes care of things.
